Se há coisa que eu gosto bastante aqui na Irlanda é o sistema de trocas e devoluções nas lojas.
Aqui, o cliente é rei.
Lembro-me, pouco tempo depois de ter cá chegado, comprar uns collants que vinham dentro de uma embalagem de cartão. Chegada a casa, abri a embalagem e ao desenrolar os collants reparei num buracão numa das pernas. Fiquei na dúvida o que fazer, habituada às dificuldades e entraves que as lojas em Portugal costumam colocar. Bem, o pior que pode acontecer é dizerem que não dá, pensei eu. Como tal, no dia seguinte voltei a loja, mostrei os collants e expliquei que só tinha reparado no buraco ao chegar a casa. Preparadíssima para um encolher de ombros e um "não dá para trocar" (ler isto com uma vozinha fininha e irritante), fiquei de boca aberta quando oiço a menina da loja perguntar "não há problema, quer o dinheiro de volta ou quer trocar por outras?" Eu fiquei maravilhada.
E isto não foi um caso isolado.
Um outro episódio aconteceu há cerca de um ano. Eu tinha visto aqui numa loja da Swatch um relógio automático que entretanto decidi comprar para oferecer a Sr. Marido. Como não tive tempo para comprar cá, numa das minhas idas a Portugal, aproveitei estar sozinha para ir a uma Swatch e comprar o dito. Cheguei à loja e disse que queria aquele modelo, com a bracelete castanha. Diz-me a rapariga da loja que só tinham com bracelete preta.
- E não sabe se tem noutras lojas? - perguntei eu.
- Não, este modelo só tem com bracelete preta.
- Não, este modelo também tem bracelete castanha.
- Não, não tem.
- Tem. Eu já vi. Só que não foi cá, em Portugal.
- Ai desculpe, mas é impossível, este relógio só existe em todo lado com bracelete preta.
- Eu sei que vi com bracelete castanha. Não sou nem daltónica, nem mentirosa, nem maluca.
- Mas onde viu? Hmm? Onde???
- Em Dublin, na Irlanda.
- Ahhh, pois, sabe, às vezes não recebemos a colecção inteira…
- Então antes de duvidar do cliente, tente perceber o que ele está a dizer! E já agora, a garantia só funciona cá? Ou também dá fora do país?
- A garantia só dá em Portugal.
Bem, acabei por levar o relógio com a bracelete preta, obviamente, visto que o dia de anos do homem estava a aproximar-se.
Passados uns meses, o bendito relógio avariou-se e Sr. Marido foi à Swatch, cá em Dublin, confirmar se a garantia dava para ser usada cá ou não. O empregado da loja disse logo que sim, que as garantias da Swatch eram internacionais. Então, é que o relógio está avariado e foi comprado em Portugal, diz Sr. Marido. Diz o rapaz da loja que não havia problema, só precisava de ver o relógio para perceber o que tinha. Passados uns minutos, vira-se para o Sr. Marido e diz "sim, está realmente avariado. Quer trocar por outro diferente ou igual?"
Igual, responde o Sr. Marido.
Ao que o rapaz vira-se e pergunta "e a bracelete? Quer continuar com a preta ou quer a castanha?"
There's this thing that I just love in here in Ireland: there's no fuss about returning or exchanging things from shops. Here, the customer is king.
Soon after arriving here, I bought a paper package with a pair of sheer thighs inside. When I got home, I took the thighs from the package and I noticed this huge hole in them. At the time, used to all obstacles from stores in Portugal, I didn't know exactly what should I do. But in the next day I returned to the store, I showed the hole in thighs and the only thing I was asked was "do you want your money back or do you want to get the same thing?". I was amazed.
And this wasn't the only time something like this happened.
One year ago, I saw a watch in Swatch store, in Grafton Street and after awhile I decided to buy it to give to my husband. I didn't have time to return to that store so I went to a Swatch store in one of my excursions to Portugal. I got to the store and said I wanted that watch, with the brown strap. The girl from the store said they didn't have it, with the brown strap, only in black.
I asked if they could have it in another stores.
- No, this watch only comes with black strap.
- No, this watch also comes with brown strap.
- No, no.
- Yes. I already saw it, but it wasn't in Portugal.
- I'm sorry but that's impossible. This watch only comes, everywhere, with a black strap.
- I know that I saw it with a brown strap. I'm not colour blind, not a liar and I'm not crazy.
- Where did you see it? Hm? Where?
- In Dublin, Ireland.
- Ah, right, you know... sometimes we don't get whole collection.
- Okay, so before questioning the client, try to understand what he/she's trying to say. By the way, the warranty only works in Portugal or is it international?
- The warranty only works in Portugal.
My husband's birthday was approaching so I bought the watch in there, with the black strap, obviously.
After a few months, the same watch got broken. My husband decided to go to the Swatch Store here in Dublin to really see if the warranty couldn't be used in here. "All Swatch warranties are international", said the store employee. "So", said my husband, "I'd like to get my watch fixed but it was bought in Portugal". "No problem", said the guy, "I just need to see it to understand what's happening with the watch". After a few minutes he turned around and said "yes, the watch is broken. Do you want another one or the same?"
"The same", said my husband.
"And the strap?", asked the guy, "do you want it in black or brown?"
